Girls Just Wanna Have Fun....

..... oder die angekündigte Juli-Überraschung!

.....or the promised July surprise!

Meine ersten Hinweise für diese Überraschung gab ich bei Ravelry bekannt, sie lauteten: "Es ist keine Wolle und etwas für bad girls". Lebt nicht in jeder Frau ein Teil von einem "bad girl"? In mir zumindest schon und ich empfinde das nicht als negativ. Ich will euch nicht länger auf die Folter spannen und erzähle jetzt was es mit meiner Überraschung auf sich hat.

I've already gave my first hint for this surprise on Ravelry and it said: "It's not yarn and it's something for bad girls". Isn't there always a bit of "bad girl" in every single woman? Well, at least I do have that bit of "bad girl" in me and I don't really think of it negatively. But I don't want to keep you on tenterhooks any longer and so I'm going to tell you what my surprise is all about.

Jede ordentliche Werkstatt (auch eine Frauenwerkstatt) braucht einen "etwas pikanten" Kalender. (Ich kenne eine Werkstatt, in der Miss February 2007 immer noch frisch und knackig an der Wand hängt und niemals umgeblättert wurde, weil sie so schön ist. Fragt bitte nicht um welche Werkstatt es sich handelt!)

Every regular studio (even a woman’s studio) needs a “juicy little something” calendar. (I know a studio, where Miss February 2007 still hangs on the wall all fresh and crisp. She never got turned over because she was so beautiful. However, please don't ask which studio I'm talking about here!)

Im Februar 2008, zur Eröffnung meiner neuen Werkstatt, bekam ich solch einen Kalender geschenkt. Unsere Gäste, speziell die weiblichen, tauschten Blicke, ein unausgesprochenes Einverständnis lag in der Luft:

"Unsere Männer sind wesentlich interessanter, eben halt richtige Kerle"!

I received such a calendar as a present for the opening of my new studio back in February 2008. Our guests, especially the female ones, exchanged glances and there was a silent but unanimous consent in the air:

“Our guys are a whole lot more interesting. They’re real men!”

Bestimmt wißt ihr was ich meine, die kleinen Lachfalten in den Gesichtern unserer Partner, Spuren des Lebens, die einen Menschen einzigartig und unverwechselbar machen und unsere Männer sind schöner als jedes männliche Profi-Model.

You probably know full-well what I mean: Those little laughter lines on the faces of our partners, traces of lives that make a person unique and distinctive; and our guys are a whole lot more handsome than every single male professional model.

Die Gesichter meines Werkstattkalenders wurden im Laufe der Monate mit Post-It´s unkenntlich gemacht und die Idee eines wahrhaftigen Kalenders wuchs heran: " Richtige Männer mit Wolle"!

The pages of the studio’s calendar were covered bit by bit with little Post-It notes over the months and the idea of a “real” calendar took form: "Real men with yarn!"

Die Entstehungszeit mag lange gedauert haben, richtige Kerle haben eben ihren eigenen Kopf und es kostete einige Überredungskünste, sie von ihrer Mitwirkung zu überzeugen und auch die Organisation, es wirklich gut zu machen. Die Wartezeit hat sich gelohnt und ich bin sehr stolz auf jeden einzelnen Teilnehmer. Im Nachhinein weiß ich was es für jeden Einzelnen bedeutet haben muß. Danke Jungs!

The development of the calendar took its time: Real men can be stubborn and it took quite a bit of arm-twisting in order to convince them to participate in the project as well getting organised to do everything well. The waiting time paid off and I am very proud of every single contributor. In retrospect, I now know what it must have meant to each and every person involved. Thanks guys!

Bei den Shooting-Tagen waren Frauen unerwünscht, was ich auch verstehe und respektvoll akzeptieren mußte. Dabei wäre die Holztreppe im Fotostudio perfekt als Tribüne geeignet gewesen, um mit jubelnden Anfeuerungsrufen die Männer zu unterstützen.

Women were not allowed to be around on the day of the photo-shoot, which I could also understand and had to accept with respect. Although the wooden steps in the photo studio would have made the perfect grandstand for calling out cheers to support the men.

Nur für eine kurze Zeitspanne war ich eingeladen, um einen Wollteppich zu legen. Nach getaner Arbeit verabschiedete ich mich, freute mich aber die Studioathmosphäre kennen gelernt zu haben.

I was only invited for a short period of time, in order to lay down the yarn-carpet. I took my leave upon completion of my task, but I was glad that I got to know the studio atmosphere.

Unsere Jungs machten ihren Job auch ohne Cheerleader sehr gut und ich glaube, was ich von den Erzählungen erfuhr, es hat ihnen schon ein wenig Spaß gemacht. Die Bilder zumindest wurden erstklassig, oder kann ich "scharf" sagen? Nicht daß ich ein falsches Bild vermittle, es wurde sehr ernsthaft gearbeitet, wie ihr bei den folgenden Making-of Bildern sehen könnt.

Our guys did a great job even without cheerleaders and I think - at least from what I've heard - that they even had fun. The photos came out top-notch...or should I say "hot" off the press? No, I don't want to convey a false impresion; the work was done with the utmost seriousness, as you can see from the following making-of pictures.

All of our models, as well as Mr. Rohrspatz and I, have collaborated on this project free of charge. In our world, there are so many people who do not have the time or energy for “just for fun” projects, instead, they have to struggle for their survivals. We would like to make things easier for them as well as give them the chance to enjoy some delights and happiness.

"Heal the World" wie in den letzten Tagen häufiger in der Presse zu lesen war, möchte ich durch ein "Share Your Joy" austauschen. Niemand kann die Welt retten, wir sollten aber nicht vergessen, daß es vom Schicksal nicht so verwöhnte Menschen auf dieser Welt gibt.

Sie gehören zu uns und wir gehören zu ihnen!

I would like to swap "Heal the World" - as we have been hearing and reading more and more often in the news lately - with "Share Your Joy". No-one can totally save this world, but we should not forget that there are still people on this world who are not as fortunate as us.

They are one of us and we are one of them!

Die Party vor der Eröffnung

So begann die Party am Donnerstag Abend, vor der offiziellen Eröffnung am Samstag, mit einem perfekten Regenbogen auf dem gegenüberliegenden Parkplatz. Die Aussicht ist nicht besonders schön, der Regenbogen war es aber. Kurz zuvor entdeckte ich in unserem Garten eine tote Meise und hielt es für ein schlechtes Omen, der Regenbogen glich wieder alles aus.

The party began thus on Thursday evening before the official opening on Saturday: With a perfect rainbow over the parking lot opposite the shop. The view to the parking lot is not that great, but the rainbow made up for it. Earlier, I found a dead tit (the bird I used for my name: "Meise") in the garden and thought it to be a bad omen, but the rainbow probably cancelled it out.

So sieht er also aus, der fertig eingerichtete Laden. Mein fertig eingerichteter Laden, ich kann es immer noch nicht glauben.

The shop looks like so after it's been furnished and set-up. My shop, I still cannot believe it.

Ganz vorne rechts im Schaufenster seht ihr einen Socken-Pfau, einer der wenigen letzten seiner Art. Er steht schon fast unter Artenschutz, da er nicht mehr hergestellt wird. Dani, eine liebe Freundin, schenkte ihn mir, reich mit selbstgestrickten Socken bestückt und dem Versprechen weitere Socken für den Pfau zu stricken. Dani Du bist ein Schatz auch ohne Pfau und Socken.

In the shop window on the right, right at the front, you can see a Sock-Peacock, one of the very last of its kind. It is almost under the protection of species, because it is no longer in production. A good friend of mine, Dani, gave it to me as a present. It came fully dressed with all the socks and with a promise that more socks will be knitted for it. Dani, you're a darling, even without the peacock or the socks.

Weiter geht es zu meiner Blumenwiese, über der eine "Sockenwäscheleine" hängt. Dekoration gehört nicht zu meinen Spezialgebieten und "DER" fehlende Stuhl warf all meine Deko-Pläne über den Haufen. Geplant war ein sensationeller Stuhl, für den ich eigens ein Kissen strickte. Laut Hersteller beträgt die Lieferzeit 10 Tage, leider übersah ich das Datum vom 21.08.09, ab dem die 10 Tage gerechnet werden. Jetzt wißt ihr was als September-Deko geplant ist, ein sensationeller Stuhl mit einem Kissen das bis dahin hoffentlich fertig wird.

We'll move right along to my flower meadow, above which hangs the clothesline full of socks. Decorating doesn't belong to my strength and "THE" missing chair practically knocked down my deco-plans on the head. A sensational chair was planned, with a cushion to go with it that I knitted myself. According to the manufacturer, the chair should have been delivered within 10 days. However, I overlooked the fact that the ten days are being counted from the 21st August 2009. Now you know what to expect for the September decoration: A splashy chair with a knitted cushion that will hopefully be finished by then.

IKEA macht´s möglich! Dieses kleine quietschgelbe Möbel ist der Pfauenthron von IKEA, wie so vieles Andere in meinem Laden. Ich mag Ikea, aber nicht pur bis ins kleinste Detail. Was soll ich sagen, es wurde VIEL von diesem Möbelhaus und ich hoffe die eigene kleine persönliche Note kommt doch noch zum Tragen.

IKEA to the rescue! This little glaring yellow piece of furniture is the Peacock Throne from IKEA, as where a lot of other furniture in my shop came from. I like IKEA, but not to every minute detail. What should I say? We got A LOT from this home-centre and I just hope that the personal touch would still show through.

Und weiter mit der persönlichen Note! Diese Bilder sollen ja nur zeigen, daß ich nicht nur ein einziges Wollregal vorweisen kann.

And further on with the personal touch! These pictures are the proof that I don't have just only one shelf full of yarns.

Dies ist die "Molly" Abteilung. Mittlerweile hat sich herausgestellt daß Molly ein sehr "relaxtes" Mädel ist. Eine Bitte an all die Molly verstricken möchten: Strickt eine Maschenprobe und wascht diese vor dem Maßnehmen. Molly entwickelt seine volle Größe erst nach der Wäsche.

This is the "Molly" department. In the mean time, we have found out that Molly is a very "relaxed" kind of girl. So a friendly advice to all those who want to knit up Molly: Make a gauge swatch and wash it before taking the gauge measurement. Molly develops her full potential, i.e. her real gauge after the washing.

Kein Fest ohne Gaumenfreuden. Apropos Gaumenfreuden, ich hoffe sie waren es!

Der Kommentar einer spitzen Männerzunge zu dem Antipasti-Buffet war:

"Ich wußte gar nicht, daß die Scheyrer Gärtnerei jetzt auch Buffets liefert"

Zugegebenermaßen waren die Antipasti sehr Gemüse-lastig, oder wie soll man so etwas ausdrücken. Lieber Steff, ich stellte mir auch etwas anderes vor.

It's not a party without food. And speaking of food, I hope that it really was a treat! The comment from a gourmet tongue from the guys about the antipasti buffet was: "I didn't even know that the Schreyer Garden Nursery now also does buffet." Admittedly, the antipasti buffet was ladened with vegetable, or should one say otherwise. Dear Steff, I was thinking of something else myself when it comes to the buffet.

Vitamine schaden aber in keinster Weise, sagen alle die Appetit hatten und trotzdem zulangten!

Bestimmt fragt ihr euch "was für eine Party ohne Menschen auf den Bildern?".

Ich vermeide es Bilder meiner Gäste zu zeigen, weil ich jeden einzelnen vorher um Erlaubnis hätte fragen müssen, bestimmt versteht ihr das.

Vitamins never hurt anybody, that's what all those who was hungry said and they went for the buffet anyway!

You're probably asking yourself: "What kind of a party is this without any people on the pictures at all?" I try to avoid showing pictures of my guests, because I would have to ask each and every one of them for permission to post their photos here. Surely, you can understand this.

However, I will show you at least the next picture without even having asked for the permission. On the left is Frank from BueroWK.

Frank shot all the photos that are shown here and Maria, his partner, designed our logo as well as our paper bags, vouchers, etc.

Lisa, meine nicht oder wenig strickende Tochter, versuchte auch die Party im Bild fest zu halten. Leider wurden ihre Schnappschüsse zu dunkel oder zu unscharf. Ich bin aber froh daß Lisa eine Aufnahme von Annes Leihgabe, dem Pfauentuch, machte. Anne ist Arlene's World of Lace und entwirft herrliche Lace-Muster, wie zum Beispiel ihren Ammonit Stola.

Lisa, my non-knitting, or my knitting-just-a-bit daughter also tried to capture some of the party atmospheres on camera. However, her pictures turned out to either be too dark or blurry. However, I'm glad that Lisa could capture a picture of the Pretty As A Peacock shawl that was on loan from Anne. Anne is Arlene's World of Lace and she designs some very superb lace patterns such as her Ammonit Stole for example.

Lisas Bild zeigt es deutlich, es ist spät und dunkel, Zeit um Gute Nacht zu sagen. Schön war er, der erste Abend, und der darauf folgende Samstag auch.

Lisa's picture really shows that it is late and dark: Time to say good-night. It was such a great first evening as well as the following Saturday.
